Black Friday Predictions: Video Games & Toys
Posted October 1, 2018 by GottaDeal.com Staff
As for video games, this year should see a dual focus on games and console bundles as manufacturers try to entice shoppers who haven’t already bought a console to take advantage of great deals offered on Black Friday.
There aren't any new consoles this year. Both Sony and Microsoft released 4K versions of their consoles in previous years to try and pick up some end-of-generation sales so we could see some deals on both those versions and the non-4K models in Black Friday ads this year.
The Nintendo Switch continues to be a massive hit for Nintendo and new console bundles for the holiday season featuring popular games Super Smash Bros., Pokemon and Fortnite should really boost sales during the lucrative shopping season.
Every year, video game manufacturers create special “holiday” bundles which include a console and typically several popular games. In most cases these bundles cost less than the system alone cost just a few weeks prior. In some cases there are multiple bundles available for the same system with different games or accessories included.
The details of the bundles are typically released in October and these bundles can be purchased in stores and online shortly thereafter, however it is usually better to wait for the Black Friday ads to leak to see which retailers will have the best price on these bundles and if any will be including additional games, accessories or gift cards. These bundles typically are $50-100 less on Black Friday.
The fall lineup of games this year is especially enticing for gamers. Some of the most anticipated games coming over the next few months include Red Dead Redemption 2, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Call of Duty Black Ops 4, Super Mario Party, Fallout 76 and many others. Based on previous years’ Black Friday ads, deals for these recently released games should be plentiful, with prices as low as $35.
When it comes to toys this year, the tried and true brands should be very popular in Black Friday ads this year. LEGO continues its timeless appeal and should again be very popular this year, even if the discounts on the most in-demand sets aren’t that deep. There is a new Barbie Dream House that is proving to be popular. L.O.L. Surprise dolls and related accessories, including the $200 Surprise House could be very popular long with toys from Paw Patrol, Fingerlings and more.
