Black Friday Predictions: Video Games & Toys

Posted October 11, 2017 by GottaDeal.com Staff

As for video games, this year should see a dual focus on games and console bundles as manufacturers try to entice shoppers who haven’t already bought a console to take advantage of great deals offered on Black Friday.

Both Sony and Microsoft have released 4K versions of their consoles (including the upcoming Xbox One X) to try and pick up some end-of-generation sales so we could see some deals on both those versions and the older models in Black Friday ads this year.

The Nintendo Switch has been a massive hit for Nintendo, something they desperately needed after the relative poor sales of the Wii U. We expect some small discounts on Switch systems this year, perhaps in the $25-50 range. The new bundle with Super Mario Odyssey will be popular and should be available at a discount as well.

Every year, video game manufacturers create special “holiday” bundles which include a console and typically several popular games. In most cases these bundles cost less than the system alone cost just a few weeks prior. In some cases there are multiple bundles available for the same system with different games or accessories included.

The details of the bundles are typically released in October and these bundles can be purchased in stores and online shortly thereafter, however it is usually better to wait for the Black Friday ads to leak to see which retailers will have the best price on these bundles and if any will be including additional games, accessories or gift cards.

The fall lineup of games this year is especially enticing for gamers. Some of the most anticipated games coming over the next few months include Destiny 2, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Call of Duty: WWII, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Forza Motorsport 7, Super Mario Odyssey, South Park: The Fractured but Whole, Star Wars Battlefront II and many others. Based on previous years’ Black Friday ads, deals for these recently released games should be plentiful, with prices as low as $35.

When it comes to toys this year, the recently released Star Wars toys for the new movie should continue to be very popular in Black Friday ads this year. LEGO continues its timeless appeal and should again be very popular this year, even if the discounts on the most in-demand sets aren’t that deep. The new Luvabella robotic dolls from Spin Master (maker of last year's popular Hatchimals) are looking to be very popular as well.
