Countdown: 100 Days Remaining Until Black Friday
Posted on August 19th @ 9:00 am ET in Industry News

Today marks the 100 day milestone in the countdown to Black Friday 2020, whatever that day will mean this year. There's still a lot of uncertainty when it comes to retailers' holiday plans. Aside from a few major stores announcing Thanksgiving closings, we have very little insight into their plans.

If you'd like to start discussing what Black Friday and holiday shopping might look like this year, our Black Friday message board is already open. We're discussing the Thanksgiving Day closings, all the stores that have filed for bankruptcy and how it all will affect Black Friday this year.
Amazon Big Summer Sale Event Now Through Labor Day
Posted on August 5th @ 3:39 pm ET in Hot Deals

Amazon has launched what they are calling "The Big Summer Sale Event". This sale is slated to run from now through Labor Day with new deals being added each day of the sale.

Check out the sale for deals across the site including home, kitchen, furniture, lawn & garden, pets, sporting goods, toys and more. We still expect Amazon's Prime Day sale to take place in early October this year, to be followed by Amazon's traditional pre-Thanksgiving sale.
Kohl's Joins Growing List of Major Retailers to Close on Thanksgiving
Posted on July 29th @ 12:25 pm ET in Industry News

Kohl's today announced that they will close their stores on Thanksgiving Day this year. They join Walmart, Best Buy, Target and others in making similar announcements. Kohl's has recently added convenient options such as curbside pickup to give shoppers more options.

Michelle Gass, Kohl's CEO, stated that Kohl's is "adapting our plans in response to changing customer expectations and behaviors". She also went on to say that she expects shoppers to start their holiday shopping much earlier this year.
Best Buy Will Close on Thanksgiving Day This Year
Posted on July 29th @ 10:05 am ET in Industry News

Another day, another big announcement about a Thanksgiving closure. Today, it is Best Buy that announced that they will join Walmart, Target and others in closing on Thanksgiving this year.

Their announcement mentions that Best Buy will "start offering some of the hottest deals of the season earlier than ever" this year, a trend that we are seeing from other retailers.

So it's looking like we're going to have around 3 months worth of deals this year starting in October instead of one big week. But don't worry - we'll be covering all the sales and deals right here!
Target Announces Thanksgiving Closure and Holiday Plans
Posted on July 27th @ 8:15 am ET in Industry News

This morning Target announced via their A Bullseye View corporate blog that they will join Walmart in closing on Thanksgiving Day this year. This should not come as a surprise as we expect most retailers to make similar announcements over the coming weeks and months.

The article also states something we've been predicting - Target (and most other stores) will try to stretch out their sales and deals for the entire 4th quarter, starting in October and going right until the holidays rather than focus on Black Friday week. Notice that the term "Black Friday" doesn't appear anywhere in Target or Walmart's announcements. Stay tuned for more news.
Walmart Will Close on Thanksgiving - Will Black Friday Be Canceled?
Posted on July 21st @ 2:35 pm ET in Industry News

The big news today is that Walmart announced that their stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day this year. While Walmart framed this decision as a reward for their employees who have been essential to many American's lives this year, it is likely part of a bigger shift in Black Friday plans.

We expect most other retailers to follow Walmart and also announce that they will close on Thanksgiving. But we don't think this will be any more than a one-year exception due to the coronavirus pandemic. We expect Thursday sales in physical stores to resume next year.

Walmart's announcement does lead to questions about what Black Friday will look like this year. Will it be business as usual? Will there be no big sales? Will retailers expand their sale to a full week or longer to spread out shoppers? We examine the possibilities in this new article.
Amazon's Prime Day Sale Postponed to Early October
Posted on July 20th @ 1:57 pm ET in Industry News

Earlier this month it was reported that Amazon has once again postponed their popular Prime Day sale until the first week of October. According to CNBC, Amazon gave some of their third-party sellers a tentative date of October 5th for this year's Prime Day sale.

There were reports several months ago that Amazon had first delayed the sale until August, however conditions have required Amazon to postpone the sale again. The new date places the sale during the first week of the important 4th quarter for the nation's leading online retailer.

We're expecting an all-out blitz of sales during the entire 4th quarter as retailers try to make up some of the losses sustained over the spring and summer. We're expecting a big increase in the number of pre-Black Friday sales as well as better quality of deals before and after Black Friday.

When Will the First Black Friday Ad Be Posted?
Posted on July 1st @ 11:00 am ET in Guides & Tips

We know many of you anticipate the first leaked ad to be posted each year. We've compiled a chart which shows the dates we've posted ads during the past 14 years. You'll notice that aside from a few early smaller ads, the more popular ads typically start getting posted in early November.

With Black Friday falling on a later date this year, ad leaks could be delayed. The upcoming November election could also affect when ads are released by retailers. Make sure you're signed up for our free alert mailing list in case an ad gets leaked sooner than expected.

Black Friday 101 for Retailers: Best Practices
Posted on July 1st @ 11:00 am ET in Guides & Tips

We realize that we get many visits from employees of the retailers that we post Black Friday ads from. Given that potential audience of decision-makers within the retail industry, we thought we'd try to help out all of retailers during this holiday shopping season.

Several years ago we compiled a list of best practices that stores can follow for a successful day - Black Friday 101 for retailers. We think these ideas still are valid and should be considered.

Black Friday Countdown: 6 Months Until Black Friday 2020
Posted on May 27th @ 4:36 pm ET in Industry News

We are officially half-way to Black Friday 2020. Today marks the 6 month point in the countdown towards the big day. At this point there's a good chance that Black Friday will look dramatically different this year. We could see more of a focus on online sales and smaller crowds in stores.
