Black Friday Predictions: Smartphones & Wearables

Posted October 11, 2017 by GottaDeal.com Staff

The recently announced iPhone 8 and 8 Plus smartphones will be at the top of some shoppers’ lists this year. We are not expecting any huge deals for the new models this year because of Apple’s MAP policies, but you might be able to save $50 to $100 with a new contract. We should however see discounts on older iPhone models such as the 7 and 7 Plus which are still available.

Don't expect to see any deals on the upcoming iPhone X however as stock levels will make it very hard to find for anywhere near MSRP. Resellers are salivating at the chance to make hundreds of dollars per phone profit on these new models.

Deals on Android and Windows smartphones should be plentiful as they’ve been the last few years. You should be able to get nearly any current Android smartphone, even the high end models such as the Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or LG V30 for hundreds off current prices with a new 2-year contract on Black Friday.

It will be interesting to see if Google's new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL Android phones show up in any Black Friday ad. Nevertheless, Google could offer a Black Friday discount themselves as they did last year for the first generation Pixel phones.

Wearable devices such as smartwatches and fitness & activity trackers have exploded in popularity over the last 2-3 years and that will be reflected more than ever in this year’s Black Friday ads and we expect especially hot deals on these items as manufacturers look to expand their market share with deeper discounts.

Apple’s new version of their Apple Watch 3 with built-in LTE connectivity should be a big hit. We expect deals on the previous versions of Apple Watch to be very popular this year and we can see discounts of $75 to $100 off select models from retailers that carry these popular watches.

Fitness & activity trackers were all over Black Friday ads last year and this year should be no different as more people see the benefits of these devices. Expect decent deals on trackers from top brands including Fitbit, Garmin, Samsung and others, with discounts likely to be in the 25% range compared to typical prices the rest of the year. Fitbit has recently released their new Ionic smartwatch which could see a $50 discount on Black Friday. T
